The Bureau of Spherical
Integrity

“Every ball must be accounted for.”

Dispense a sphere. Test it for integrity. File your report. Rest.

Tomorrow you will do it again, and the Bureau will thank you for it in exactly the same words.

There are one hundred thousand spheres. Only one is correct. Or perhaps none are. Either way, your quota is unaffected.

Employment commences immediately upon acceptance. Acceptance is assumed.

§ 01 The working day

  1. 01DispenseA sphere arrives. It is yours until it isn’t.
  2. 02TestWeight. Warmth. Sound. Record what the instrument says.
  3. 03ReportPass, or flag. There is no third option and no wrong answer.
  4. 04RestRemain seated. Avoid prolonged eye contact with the walls.

The task never changes. That is the point.

You will not be told how you are doing. There is a record of every answer you have given, and it is not kept for your benefit.

§ 02 Onboarding

You have
been hired.

Your application was not required. Your workstation has been prepared.

It was already warm when we prepared it. This is a courtesy the Bureau extends to all incoming staff, and should not be interpreted as anything further.

Report tomorrow for your first day. Our records confirm that it is your first day. Should you remember otherwise, the records take precedence.

Are you ready?

You have answered this before.

The demo is in the works.

§ 03 The studio

Window Four

Window Four is a small independent studio making games that don’t explain themselves.

The name is the counter they send you to when the first three can’t help.

The Bureau of Spherical Integrity is the first title. One small task, repeated, while everything around it quietly changes meaning. There is no combat and no failure state in the usual sense. The only thing you can really do wrong is keep doing it.
